Nice campus. Brings more life to the city.
The school itself is incredibly small, and a total letdown if you plan on walking in and being taught by worthwhile professors. My chemistry professor had her foot so far up her own butt about the fact that she had a doctorate in chemistry that instead of teaching the class, she ran through lessons so quickly you literally couldn't grasp the content. And instead of helping the students that didn't understand what in the world she was talking about, she would instead give the entire class a lecture about how poorly we were doing, and that only two students had anywhere near acceptable grades.
Says a lot about the man taking your money, promising that your kids will experience the best education in a safe and comforting environment.
What a joke that was.
Save your time, money, and effort; this school is as broken as that poor girls bones, and won't be healing any time in the near future.
The same can be said about my math professor, who did very much the same thing, but with even less of a clue how to teach the class of twelve students he literally could never keep under control.
Teachers are great and small classes are so much better. Parking can be tough at times though.
A girl attending the school was getting food across the street at one of the many small food shops along the street. On the way back to the university, holding her french fries and chatting with her friends, a car hit her straight on and drove away. Her fries went FLYING, she screamed, her friends were traumatized, and she lied, sprawled out in the middle of the street, with a few bruised bones and a concussion and NO ONE went to help her. When the dean of the school caught wind of the incident, the police and an ambulance had already arrived. He walked out afterwards and told the students that had gathered to get back to class, not bothering to ask if the girl was okay or asking what had happened. It was rumored around the school for the next few weeks that he was purposefully sending kids away to hide the fact that one of his students had been in a hit and run that was handled horribly.
The school itself is not bad. But the bookstore is terrible. If you're renting books go somewhere else. They are the rudest people I've ever dealt with.
First and foremost, don't bother paying for the incredibly overpriced (I'm talking upwards of $120) parking sticker that lets you park in the garage attached to the campus; you're lucky if you find an open spot to park there one every couple of WEEKS. If you don't have an available spot to park, thats "too bad so sad"; the campus expects you to park two miles away at a car park that literally has a sign saying, "we are not responsible for any of your belongings if your car gets broken into".
You're then expected to WALK two miles to the campus, on dirty city streets with more homeless people and drug addicts than you could possibly imagine.
To summate my experience with this terrible excuse for a university, I will end with a small anecdote:
Although I cannot summarize my 4 year experience in one paragraph, this campus is very safe, friendly, and affordable. It will save you thousands of dollars if you choose to go here for your gen-eds. You can also get several degrees without leaving the campus. The professors in general are very helpful and love what they do, the courses can be hard, but are well-worth your effort. I absolutely loved my decision to pick Uconn's Waterbury branch.
How reassuring.
Not only is this satellite campus in literally the worst possible area to send kids to educate themselves, but the school, its motives, its students, and the professors all take the cake for, "worst way to waste your money, EVER".
Be warned that just because the classes are smaller, there is no guarantee that your professor will be competent enough to teach you a lesson that you'd grasp any better than being in a lecture hall with 200 students.
I was accepted to this satellite school as a freshman three years ago now. For whatever reason, they wouldn't let me attend the actual campus, denying my acceptance there, but congratulated me deeply on the fact that they were willing to allow me the opportunity to attend the Waterbury campus instead!
